General Timeframes

The below estimations are based on a typical small two‑bedroom home and assume there are no unexpected issues that could slow the work down.

SIDING

Replacing all siding on a small 2-bedroom home typically takes 4 to 7 days for professionals to complete, though it can span up to 2 weeks depending on weather, crew size, and necessary repairs. Faster, simpler projects (like vinyl) might finish in 3–5 days, while more complex jobs or repairs can extend the timeline.

Key Factors Influencing Time:

  • Removal and Repairs (1-3 days): Removing old siding and fixing underlying rot or damage is often the longest part of the process.
  • Material Choice: Vinyl is generally faster (1-2 weeks), while fiber cement or wood requires more time.
  • Crew Size: A larger crew can complete the work faster, but a small, skilled team may take longer to ensure quality.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, wind, or extreme temperatures can cause delays.

Typical Project Flow (1-2 Weeks Total):

  • Preparation: 1-2 days (scaffolding, material delivery).
  • Removal & Prep: 1-3 days (tear-off and cleaning).
  • Installation: 3-7 days (hanging new siding, trim).
  • Cleanup: 1 day.

For a small home, you can usually expect the crew to have the old siding off and new siding on within roughly one week.

ROOFING

Replacing the roof on a small 2-bedroom home (typically 1,000–1,500 sq. ft.) generally takes 1 to 2 days for a professional crew, assuming standard asphalt shingles and good weather. A straightforward job can often be completed in a single day, while more complex rooflines or necessary repairs might extend the work to 3 days.

Factors Influencing Time:

  • Material: Asphalt shingles are fastest (1-2 days), while metal, slate, or wood tiles can take much longer.
  • Structure: A simple gable roof is faster than a roof with multiple peaks, valleys, or skylights.
  • Weather: Rain, high winds, or extreme cold will delay the project.
  • Damage: If wood decking underneath needs to be replaced due to rot, it adds time.

Typically, the old roof is torn off and the new one is installed on the same day or within consecutive days for a small home, minimizing disruption.

GUTTERS

Installing all new gutters on a small 2-bedroom, single-story home typically takes professional installers 1 to 4 hours, or up to half a day. For a DIY project, it may take a full day (8–12 hours). Factors like removing old gutters, replacing fascia boards, and roof complexity can influence the final timeline.

Key Time Factors:

  • Professional Installers: 1–4 hours for a small, single-story home.
  • DIY Installation: 8–12 hours for a 1,000–1,500 sq. ft. single-story home.
  • Scope of Work: Removing old, damaged gutters and repairing wood fascia can add several hours to the project.
  • Material: Seamless aluminum, commonly cut on-site, allows for efficient, fast installation.

For most small, 2-bedroom homes, the job is completed in a single day, often by early afternoon.
